Walton School is located in the heart of the mighty Waikato. We are 8 minutes from Matamata, 35 minutes from Hamilton, and 45 minutes from Tauranga and Rotorua.
Our school caters for New Entrants through to Year 6. We have six classrooms, large multi-purpose room, playground, two large sandpits, swimming pool, double tennis courts, large playing field, and admin area.

We have great staff who are passionate about providing the best education for all of our children. We try to keep our class sizes as low as possible to allow students plenty of contact time with teachers. We have additional staff members (teacher aides) who support some of our students with their learning.

We believe we offer every student a great primary education where they will be challenged, provided with new learning opportunities and ultimately thrive as a learner. Students who leave our school for intermediate and beyond always look back at their time here fondly and positively.

Meet our Principal

Kia ora! Hello!

My name is Jeremy Kurth and I have the absolute privilege of being the Walton School Principal.

I am proud to say that our school has that good old country feel to it whilst still ensuring our kids are 21st century learners who are ready for an exciting tech-filled future.

Walton School's motto is to Stand Tall & Proud (Tu Maia, Tu Rangatira) which aligns with our school logo of a tall proud oak tree. To help the students achieve this we believe strongly in our school values of SPIRIT (see our values page for more about this)

As Walton Principal I believe in providing the best possible environment for our teachers to teach in and our students to learn in. I am very passionate about our excellent school and am committed to making it a place of excellence.

Calendar Art

24 Sep 2026

This year calendar art is going to be a bit different. Your child will have a calendar art sheet in their bag. This year calendar art will be completed at home. This means siblings can work on a piece together or make their own. It also means you can help your child choose a piece of art that you are happy to gift or brighten your space.

Order sheets will be sent out week 1 of Term 4 to be returned by the end of week 2 with your child’s artwork.

Futsal Term 4 (Years 3-6)

Futsal will be running for Term 4.

Years 3 & 4, Years 5 & 6. Games will be played at Headon Stadium.

Start dates:
All primary school grades will play on Monday afternoons (Games begin on October 19) – no games on Labour Weekend Monday.

Referees & equipment:
The club will provide referees and balls. Teams will need to wear Walton t-shirts (we have bibs, if required) and non-marking shoes.
Entry: $15 per student.

Touch Rugby - Term 4 (years 3-6)

United Matamata Sports Club are running a Primary Schools Touch Tournament for Term 4 2026.

The tournament will run as a 6-week module commencing on Wednesday 21st October to Wednesday 25th November.

Duration: 6 weeks

Cost: $10 registration fee per player

Shoes are required to play. This is a rule for all juniors competing in the Waikato Touch Module. Runners & sneakers are fine to wear. There are no requirements to wear boots.
